It's stored under my shed at the moment. Next time I'm at the tip, I'll take it.

Have to laugh really.
When i started my new job they sent me to one of our sites is Wisbech .
The maintenance man there was also quite new.
I was there for training, a florescent ceiling light needed a new bulb.
Ahh says the guy ,we have a load in the cupboard.
After trying about 6 new tubes we realize the old guy had simply put all the used tubes in the boxes of new ones..
Ive now got a used bulb ,battery electricle collect service set up for disposal.

Yes agree.Break it up and cut yourself you could end up an A&E case
The tube was in a thick corrugated cardboard sleeve.
I assume this about water in the microwave, right? How many people are surprised that broken glass is sharp in the same way as someone who doesn't know that water has become superheated will be when it suddenly boils in their face?.
You really should recycle fluorescents/cfls, they contain mercury.
AFAIK there was no recycling for fluorescent tubes when it went in the bin in 2004.
WEEE regulations take care of disposal.
WEEE was first introduced in 2007.
