I think I need to replace my standard specialised Sirrus Alex rims with something what do people recommend I was thinking of Mavic cxp22 ???

I replaced my Sirrus wheels with Mavic Aksium. I've got a new set to hand for my Kinesis and the shortlist to that was Aksiums again (IME solid wheels and I could get this years (2011) model (or is that last years ) for a fairly good price, the others on the list were Fulcrums 7 and 5's (great reviews too and the 7's were the same price as the Aksiums on ribble) and Planet X Model B (cheapest and lightest). In the end I opted for the Model B's, they had some good and bad reviews so I'll see

I had the CXP 22s on my Secteur as standard, they seem strong... But light they aint!

The general opinion for budget wheels seems to be Fuulcrum Racing 7s, Mavic Aksiums or the Shimano RS10 /20/ 30 depending on your budget.

Have a look here for starters, then shop around for the bst price (Though Merlin are usually cheapest - you might find somewhere with a special on)

PS- I have replaced the CXP22 with shimano R500s, they are lighter but not as strong and I can fell a bit of slex when out of the saddle and giving it some. I am 90Kg though!

I'd be very tempted by Hope Hoops if I was in the market for some racy wheels.
My handbuilts are on Hope Pro 3 hubs and they are GORGEOUS. The bearings seem to roll way better than any of the Shimano offerings I've had before. And the noise from the rear hub when freewheeling has settled to a gentle purr - just loud enough to alert errant pedestrians on the few shared use paths I use.

Hello Hlab.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you getting on with the model b's?

I'm looking for an upgrade to the stock giant wheels and wondered how these perform.

Cheers

Mine are still sitting in the box, I'm battering old wheels over the winter first. I got them for Christmas mainly on the review of my brother he bought them and has been very impressed with their weight and robustness (given he's a few stone heavier than me ;)).

I have some model Bs. They're fine for what they are and what they cost (except that on my first outing with them I didn't set the quick release up properly, and ended up mashing my chain, hanger and Chorus rear mech. Ach. The wheel trued up ok afterwards mind). For most riding I've gone back to decent 32 spoke bog-standards because the ride is more plush and just as fast, if not faster (though I rarely bother with computers these days, so that's a qualitative assessment). At the end of the day they're ok budget wheels and do the job of spinning round and round like any wheel should.
