With the Shimano UN55 BB out of production/discontinued, I'm just wondering what BB will replace the quality and reliability of the ubiquitous Shimano UN55 BB, preferably at the same price range.

Obviously, Chris King and Phil Woods BBs are available for folk with plenty of cash.

I'm just thinking about what my next square taper BB choice might be.

You can bet there will be makers willing to plug the gap for this popular item. There's loads on eBay, never heard of Neco before, £14.

With ST BBs going on for intergalactic mileages I should think it's going to be while before you need another ^_^

I've just fitted a shimano UN300. I assumed that was the spiritual successor to the UN55?

Looks like it.

Not too dear at about twenty quid given the context of increasing prices for bike bits.

Yes, I know, but, are they as durable as the UN55, only time will tell.
very probably, Shimano are unlikely to have forgotten how to make decent BB's just because they've changed the part number a bit.

they look and feel pretty similar
