Is your argument that someone intending to be objectionable precludes anyone taking issue with that poster being objectionable?

I think that's supportable in a private context, or in the acknowledged "bearpit" forums - I'm not sure that it holds up in Café (see caveat below, however).

I hope I don't do you a disservice with the assumption, but from what little I know of your persona on Cyclechat, I thought that would be the case. Hope springs eternal, I suppose, and again, as this isn't a private conversation, there's a rationale that supports making the arguments in any case.

I'm not sure I understand the first part of that - the second, (being misguided), perhaps. I've not been back long, and Café may well be the sort of place where this kind of thing passes without comment these days.

I bet that the fact a Scotsman has won Wimbledon in this modern era really sticks in some folks craw love it. However we do love to get right behind our sports folk in the UK and they are free to voice an opinion without being slaughtered for it.
