Do it on your terms at your pace, & you're not a once a year skyride nodder so you know how to pace a full distance ride properly, but maybe have someone on standby to pick you up if you do feel a bit iffy.


& scope out the nice looking cafes and pubs on street view at regular intervals for a cup of tea and a slice of cake if you need to.

I rode 150 miles through the Alps after my head was severed in a horrific accident when unwrapping an Opal Fruit went horribly wrong. I only fainted twice, both in the first 50. After a while you'll find you ride yourself in and the pain becomes almost bearable.

Sounds like you may have had Cellulitis ? I've had this 3 times in the last 5 years or so, each time on my leg from a bite. Whilst I felt fine, I was in fact quite depleted of energy if I tried and over did it, for a while after in fact.....

No I have been in hospital for most of May having major open heart surgery. I have not long got out of hospital.

Alex Dowsett did the UK TT championship today. 27 miles. After lap one he got stung by a wasp on the inside of his thigh. He's now the UK champion and took a 3 1/2 minutes lead out ofr 2nd place. Stings aren't all bad....

If you feel fine and handle antibiotics without complications, I'd follow the doctor's opinion as a cyclist and not his opinion as a GP.

If it's not the official one and you're not on form, then give your body the day off and rearrange for another time. If they're your mates, they'll understand and if they give you grief, then why do you want to spend a day with them anyway?!

If you feel fine, then go for it but have a bail out option as others have said.
