What would you take with you when evacuating a plane on fire?

I'd take just myself. My wallet and passport would be on my person any way.

In such a situation to waste even one second fetching irrelevant and replaceable material goods is stupid at best, deadly at worst. Most of the 7 people injured were twonks who head butted luggage on the way down the chute.

I have no qualms in castigating people for stupid, life endangering behaviour.

Plenty of chat on pprune about this. Whilst you're not supposed to take your bags I can completely understand people doing it. In a foreign country, family at home worried etc etc. I'd want my passport, money and phone. If they're in my bag then the bag comes with me if at all possible

Apparently pilots travelling in normal seating tend to keep these items about them and their shoes on during take off, then transfer them to their overhead bag in flight as its taxi and take off where the biggest evacuation risk occurs

I bet there were a few cretins trying to take pictures of the incident,or film it as people were desperately trying to get past them.

That's a little unfair. Here's a video taken from inside the aircraft, however the flight attendant's voice can be clearly heard telling the passengers to remain seated:

I thought this myself. They should be prosecuted for reckless endangerment or whatever. 14 people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Some may have been smoke inhalation, but I'd bet some were twisted ankles or similar whilst scrambling to get out because some morons decided they need their hand luggage.
Exactly my thoughts when i heard it.
