Hey guys,

Just wondering what people would estimate my 1997 Lemond Reno to be worth?

I know that's a tough question without actually sticking it up for sale but wanted a quick guage before deciding what to do. It's in good condition with only scratches/signs of use.

Cheers, Mike

Unfortunately you've taken the photos from the wrong side so what is the group set, tubing ( no sticker visible) and any other features? Has it been resprayed?
Have a look on eBay,
There's a 1994 team bike on there at the moment for £700 BIN so I would guess around that.

Hey,

It's got the original paint and groupset is the original shimano rsx. I replaced the front crank with an spa cycles set. I also replaced the cassette and bottom bracket.

Cheers

Nice bike
With the saddle that i low i would check that the seat post is not stuck ?
If you decide on selling it i would take picture with the saddle at least 3 inches higher than it is now

Yeah, the seat post is fine. I just annoyingly didn't put the seat up high enough after servicing it and taking the photo haha

Good morning,

Sorry but I am going to give a really low valuation, £75-£200 so things can only get better from here on .

Assuming that the specs at https://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=1997&brand=LeMond &model=Reno are correct

True Temper CroMo doesn't carry much "brand power" and 7 speed (RSX~=Tiagra ?) all makes for a fine bike but my low price is based on watching steel on ebay.

At any higher price it has the problem of why buy it over a new bike such as a Spec. Allez? Although there is a lot of talk about steel bikes, "steel is real" etc. this doesn't seem to translate into real people actually spending real money on used steel bikes.

If you go back a page or so a nice Raleigh Royal linked to went for £187.

EDIT: Further details on pages 9/10 https://vintage-trek.com/Trek-Fisher-Klein-Lemond/1997lemond.pdf and one on Ebay in the USA https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lemond-Reno-Road-Bike-Shimano-/224403588494 with a $330 starting price (same era ish but Reynolds 525, a step backwards, but more cred?). A full True Temper frame comes in at roughly the same weight as a full 531DB frame.

Poster on https://www.cyclechat.net/threads/is-this-bike-worth-much.273494/ had two other bikes which went for

£128 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Red...558165?hash=item2b0224c615:g:vuEAAOSwaLxgVgpT
and
£241 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-...566036?hash=item2b0224e4d4:g:FqUAAOSw5otgVgxu

Bye

Ian

Very nice looking bike, The great thing about a bike like your Lemond is it can still be used like a modern bike by a club cyclist on a club run and so only my opinion but i would put its value at around £500.

Strange times for bike prices at present some vintage bikes and selling very cheap i know of a Raleigh ace that seller can not even sell it for £60?

At the same time i have seen Bianchi steel frames that pre lockdown would sell for about £100 sell for more than £500.

Your Lemond looks great and if i had it £500 would seem a very fair and reasonable asking price.

The inconsistency with steel is, I believe, down to the fact there are several micro-markets that together form the whole steel market.
By that I mean there is the utilitarian daily rider market, the tourer and low-end "racer" market, and the high end vintage custom and competition market.
On a personal level, a sought-after high end Italian racing machine has no more utility value to me than my more modest Dawes and Raleigh 531 frames. Don't get me wrong, some of them are a work of art in the way they were built, and would be nice to have to look at, but they are still just another type of bike all said and done.
I am not going to pay daft money for a bike because of the name on the downtube or the fact that rider x happened to win a big race riding that model of bike. For me, it's about the workmanship and usefulness, not the cachet.

I see LeMonds go rather cheaply as compared to other cycles with more recognition. True Temper seems to have the capability to rust at a moments' notice, and I have never been impressed with the ride quality. Geometry on the LeMond bicycles are a bit different. Some people like them, some people hate them. After 1996, Trek was producing bikes for LeMond. In the States, I see them offer at between 350 and 700 USD, or about 250 pounds to 500 pounds sterling.
