Worth looking at the two links below but I'd suggest 1985 ( https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/1985-peugeot-ph501.397218/ ):

There should be badging for tube type on the downtube (HLE / 501 / other) and, if rarely used, a two letter and two digit paper/sticky label near the non-drive side bottom bracket area.

I had pne, identical all bar frame size and mine having plastic shift levers. Mine was a '92 and I'd suggest that one is a touch earlier, somjm going with 88 +/- 1.

Huret started date marking their mechs on the rear (WWYY) in the late 70s so you could likely get an accurate age from that.

Low end, although decently constructed, frame with low end accoutrements. No classic value, bicycle/working transport value only, but they ride pleasantly. A cut above the contemporary Raleigh 18-23 frame machines in terms of ride quality.

PS, don't let Accy see the car in the background.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
I'll add my voice to mid 80s. A few years back I did a clean up/restoration on a friend's bike that had been in storage for ages. It was - from memory - identical. Including the annoying fiddly cable inside the top tube. Maybe didn't have the word "premiere". He bought it in the 80s he said.

Both my kids had ones like that and always rode well. Lasted well too, aside from my son riding his into a concrete post on the German coastal path.
