They sure give you the run around at times, make you worry at times, make you shout, make you go out in all weathers , cost a mint, but one look into them big eyes ,a smile in a way they only can and you forget every thing and won’t want it any other way.

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
Given that they dictate house, car and holiday purchases, i would have to say quite a bit.
Absolutely and I will add to that the landscaping of the garden and type of Motorhome we bought.

Wouldn't change a thing. The happiness they bring is priceless.

I adore my Toffee-dog. When I started dating blokey, he said that he didn’t much like them. I told him it was a case of ‘love me, love my dog’. I put up with his his rowing stuff everywhere so my little lurcher is no bother. I have come home and found him snoozing with dog in his arms.
I would have kicked him to the kerb if he hadn’t got along with my dog. Lots of blokeys, only 1 Toffee-dog.

I've just remembered a few weeks ago we found out via the Receptionist that the system our vet's has show's on log in how much money you have spent. Well we had ask then.... Over the life of 2 dog's and it's the only vet's we have used. Between us and the insurance company the sum is getting toward's £20K  ( I know tell us about it )That's not counting the money paid when our dog's have been referred to specialists one e.g is our last dog had a MRI and other test's that was £2500. So I guess they really mean a lot in the end

On my way back from school this afternoon, my wife texted me to tell me she had to take Molly ( our 4 months Cocker Spaniel) to the vet as an emergency. She had been stung a few times inside her mouth and on her lips. Her mouth was all swollen said my wife. Anyway, 2 injections and some pills later, I am pleased to say she is back to her normal self. I couldn't wait to get home and see her again. It is often in cases like that that you realise how much you love your pets.
And TBH the main reason we have never had any (apart from fish).....plus the way they tie you down.
We came so close to getting a red setter once but at last moment decided against it.
Glad your pet is getting better.

Barnet,
Having had our 22 year old Burmese cat put to sleep earlier in the year, there was a void in the house. Even though we do have a 7 year old Border Collie.
We have now taken on 3 kittens that we were fostering for the National Animal Welfare Trust. We have had them for three weeks now and couldn't send them back. One white and black, Daisy, one long haired black, Poppy, and a long haired tabby male. Dirty Harry, who we think is going to be a bit of a handful. They will all be neutered and spayed in the next couple of weeks.
So in answer to the OP, pets mean an awful lot in this household.^_^^_^

I've had dogs all my life. My current dog is a Staffy and the first rescue dog i've taken on. I've had him 10 years from when he was 18 months old. He had a terrible life for those first 18 months before being rescued by the RSPCA, but has never been an ounce of trouble or problem since i got him.
He's been an absolute pleasure to have in my life.

We used to have 2 Border Collies

Jack (1995 - 2005), was from a working farm but terrified of Sheep (if we ever went on country walks), so presumably he was chased as a pup?
Utterly gorgeous, as a pup!!

Gypsy was a rescue dog (NCDL - Leeds)
For that reason, we had no idea of her age, but they reckoned on 2
We got her in 1998(?), she lived to 2009

I still think of both, every day, & as I type this my eyes are leaking tears

Now we just have the daughters dumb-ass Cockerpoo
It's hers, if anyone says how nice/cute it is
It's ours (obviously!!), if it needs feeding/poop-picking/vaccinating/brushing/clipping...…..

Really child 2's, but he took to me after we got him and since she started college 12 months ago, it has fallen upon Mrs B and I to look after him.
Although he has been in the garden hundreds of times, he is like a new puppy exploring and then comes running to my feet wanting reassurance I am still in the garden with him.

And in the house:

Not as much fun as a dog and not as "licky", but he shows his affection in other ways.
