I have just one question as I've riding a fair bit on one of these paths myself recently. It concerns other cyclists, not pedestrians.
When I ride on an off road cycle path, I keep left as I do on the road. Surely cyclists coming the other way should move to their left, i.e my right, rather than move directly into my path, making me go tot the "wrong side of the road" to avoid them? Surely normal rules of the road should apply here.
Well, not legally, no, but sticking to the convention would seem to be the most convenient and sensible thing to do for all concerned.
I came via the Peckham quiet route again this morning and took it much easier than previously. Still not exactly slow but apparently not quick enough for the liking of the numpty behind me who was treating it as a racetrack, pinging his pathetic little bell like Quasimodo having a fit, then overtaking me in a most unsuitable place while a pedestrian was approaching the other way, forcing her to veer into my path, requiring sharp braking from me.
When we got out of the park section, back onto the proper road, I cruised past him effortlessly. He clearly didn't like this much, as he then tried to pass me again by cutting inside me, but very quickly realised the reason I was taking the wide line was because the bus ahead of us was turning left and almost ran into the back of it...
More haste, less speed, young padawan.
