Used to wake up to the sound of it, however it seems to have disappeared entirely. Anyone else notice this?

Here the dawn chorus seems to be at 2-3 am.

It seems the birds are drowned out by the noise of traffic and people at dawn (morning rush hour) and so have moved to an earlier time to be heard.

Even in the countryside I found it missing.
Over 1/2 mile to the main road. One vehicle every 10 minutes counts as heavy usage.

The ever changing lifestyles of humans, that is what has happened to the Dawn Chorus.

We love to illuminate the night sky, the poor things think its still daytime! they don't notice nightfall, and recognise the dawn even less. Also, they have been up all night because they think its daytime, so even if they did notice the dawn arrive, they would be too knackered to sing anyway.

If you don't believe this, pop along to your 24hour supermarket at about 1am, you will see the birds flitting around under the high powered car park lights, just like they do in the afternoon.

F****s wake me up at 4 every morning.

Then I get an ear worm for "A small bird sang on an Ivy Branch".

Cute birds, though. I think they're robins or starlings. Both hang out in the garden during daylight. Don't know which ones are the 4amers though.

I'm not a twitcher, but the 3am-er's are probably Robins, I believe they stake territorial claims at that time of day.

<will probably be corrected by someone that knows better>

I've noticed this, was at my OH's, and normally we're awoken at 4am by cawing crows in the morning however just the other day there was only some small birds making light noise, thankfully, as it was a muggy night and didn't want to close the window.

Dawn chorus is seasonal, I believe. They only really go for it in the spring, during the breeding season, and then they go much quieter.

That's what they said on springwatch and/or countryfile, so it must be true!
