What's that in the sky? One for the meteorologists

Lazily looking out of the living room window this morning. Lovely day with light wispy clouds and the sun was strong enough to break through.

Then I saw this

A very distinct bright area in the light clouds, well away from where the sun was. And you can see there is some light refraction going on too

This is what it looked like without any zoon

20 minutes later and it's gone. Is Glossop being invaded by UFOs or is there possibly a more mundane explanation?? The sun is well off to the right, out of picture

Yes, definitely sun dogs. Here's a pic of some I took last summer in North Yorkshire.

Basically a rainbow created by ice. Not a fully formed rainbow as the ice crystals have distinct axes (that are aligned by gravity/air resistance) which spherical raindrops don't have.

Its definitely Aliens , they have probably been visiting my mate that lives in Hollingworth , I always knew he was from another Planet !
