And I thought I had done well when I went to B&Q a few weeks ago.

My new panniers were loaded with 2.5L of emulsion, 1L of gloss, 2L of white spirit and I tied a 5ft roller blind along the top tube. I was really pleased with my new semi-car free lifestyle. It has slipped a little since

One of the lads on the CTC forums made his own trailer for jobbies like that. I wouldnt carry a fridge like that myself, but you do, oddly, have to commend him for his perserverance and lack of wobble. I love how the DM site is now plagued with "get a life, this happens all the time in the East" comments, too.

I moved a record collection in a pair of Karrimor panniers once. When I got to my destination and lifted the bike up the kerb, the load was so heavy it derailed my saddle.

They don't go back in.

On four wheels, a six foot fridge. Carried into the rubbish dump instead of paying the council to remove it.

Two wheels. Two scythes & a bag of coal.

A heavy duty hook, chain, block and tackle that I used to lift a 1300cc engine out of a mk2 Ford Escort.
I dont know what it weighed but it was awful. I borrowed it from a mate. The block was in one Karrimor pannier while the chain ran out of the bag, over the rack and down into the other pannier with the hook. My big mistake was trying to ride it. I got about 10 yds when the horrendous rear whip got the better of me and flung me into the road. When some bloke passing by had stopped laughing, he helped me lift the bike up and I walked the rest of the three miles home.
