Pondering what's the use of low value coins in a no/low cash using society.

Here: 20p for printing a letter at Kendal library.

(Printer has given up the ghost and the Gov' department we were writing to has no email address - despite it being 2025).

Can you buy anything cheaper?

Google "50p Lil" - in fact dont Google it if you're prone to feeling queasy.

That was the cheapest thing you could buymin this town.

Printing in local libraries here went up by 50% for B&W to 15p per sheet/side printed.
Forms needed for official use are free.

On topic.

The cheapest thing in my town are the lemons at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. They're free!

There are a few things in the Tesco express in Pontyclun for 50p or less. There is also a co-op and another "convenience store" there which probably have similar. And as said above, you can get a single carrot for much less, given they are only 69p/Kilo.

In Cowbridge, about the same distance the other way, there is another Tesco Express, a full size Waitrose and a Filco, and I expect all of those have things at similar prices.

The cheapest thing anywhere is nothing, that is free!!

If you insist on a transaction then a barter is the cheapest thing I reckon.

Purely monetary transactions then I think Penny chews are about 2 pence these days or more. That is if you can find a shop selling them individually and not in haribo or other brand packets.

I think our ‘sweetie shop’ in town still sells individual wine gums as ‘penny chews’ for 1p.

I cannot email information to the Australian Taxation Office but i can FAX it to them!
Well I could, if I still had a facsimile machine.

In the days when fax machine were being phased out but a few places still required them
there was a web site where you could send them an image of a document and they would send it to a number you gave them as a fax

Probably not therte now - and I can;t be bothered to look - but it was a cool business idea for a few years

little aside
when I worked for a school last they still had a fax machine in the office that was essential

every few days I used to take out the spam adverts that came through overnight

then one day they noticed that it was broken - they used to use it as a photocopier if they wanted something quick
(although the main high speed copier was just next door!!!)

anyway I was tasked with replacing it because it was clearly unfixable

I asked how many times they had used it - or received one inward - in that last year and I was told that it was critical to the school and was often used
I had been there for 3 years and never seen it used!
but anyway
so I looked and it took a while to find one but I finally did - after about 2 weeks
so I went and told teh Head and asked if I could order it

she was in the office at the time where the fax was

she asked if we REALLY needed on and the office staff said they had used it several times in the last week

at which point I mentioned that as it had been smoking when I last looked at it - it had been switched off for 2 weeks and the power cord was in my office!!!

we didn;t get a new one

which I suppose was a pretty cheap replacement!!
(he said desperatly trying to put it back on thread topic!!)
