Lidl are bringing their line of helmets again. The question is, what are the differences of the Lidl / Aldi helmets and the well known manufacturers such as Giro?

The first ever helmet I bought was a Giro. I remember spending a great deal of time trying helmets at the LBS..... in the end I got a Giro which was the best for fit, although I wasn't totally happy with it. About two years later I was in Aldi and I decided to try out one of their helmets..... I was so impressed with the fit that I bought it. The helmet fitted me perfectly something that I could not find two years previously, despite trying in excess of 15 helmets of well known manufacturers.

I don't see much differences in the construction of my cheapo Aldi helmet and my Giro..... having said that, I have always wondered whether the Giro helmet would protect me better in case of an accident - ( those who do not believe in helmets don't need to tell me their views on helmets ^_^ )

With the Giro you are paying a lot simply for the name. I don't know if the quality is any better than Lidl or Aldi, who would find it difficult to charge a premium for their name on a product. It is the same with the clothing.

Simple really - Lidl/Aldi make helmets to fit people with weirdly mishapen, lumpy craniums

Seriously - as the cheapo helmets will have had to have passed the same (low) minimum BS/Euro safety standards as the Giro there should be no difference in protection.

Don't know about their helmets but the Crane gear from Aldi is far better than the cr!p fran Lidl.
In all honesty you'll probably get the same protection fron any sub £50 helmet.

My first helmet was from Lidl. It served me well for daily use over three years. Last year, I replaced it with a mid-level Bell helmet.

The Bell fitted the same, but it's adjustment was marginally easier. Otherwise not discernible difference.
