Whats the gear trick?

It is 52 and 38 front 12 and 16 rear. I fitted a new chain and rear cogs at the same time because it all needed doing. I did also fit a new BB but I cannot remember what length.

The biggest problem I had changing gear is when I went from a six speed to a 12, I bought a mountain drive as well, this involved doing the left hand, right hand dance and then realising I needed lower so I had to look down kick the gear change button will my heel at the appropriate point, change back up on the left hand right hand buttons while simultaneously swerving back to the kerb and giving the cyclists salute to the car that just passed/nearly ran over me.
It must have looked like I needed to update my medication.
Glad I'm back to one gear now.
