I discovered the hard way that I'm near fatally allergic to jalapeño peppers. Apparently there is some kind of acid in them which my body isn't a fan of. I tend to avoid hot peppery type things as a result.

Something based loosely on a phaal. A bit "customized" at the request of a friend who knew the owner of the restaurant we were at as it was my birthday. Lost my sense of taste and smell for a short while. Later in the evening my flatmate wished he'd lost his sense of smell too . He wasn't the one responsible for the meal. That would have been good karma.

Hottest dish I had some of (not mine) was a Phal which blew my throat apart. Hottest thing I have tried was my homegrown Scotch Bonnet and Habanero puree. It was such an intense pain and lasted ages.

Here in malaysia we have 'birds eye chillies' or 'chili api' (translated as fire chilli).

Birds eye chillies are the smallest ones right at the bottom of this pic.

Its the hottest of the lot. and here we pound it up with shrimp paste to make 'sambal belacan' - eye popping hot chilli dip usually eaten with raw vege. for the uninitiated, u would be needing the assistance of the fire brigade to douse the fire on ur tongues hehehehe

Birds eyes are the ones I buy from.my local grocer ... They are amazing, I love their taste


And we had a lovely sambal in sri lanka which was with coconut rice... Nom nom nom
