Opposite purchase from Lakeland - something that seemed pointless but is in fact good:

Green spongy mat stuff for lining the salad drawers in the frigde. Here it is

Our drawers were getting ice in the bottom and so our veg were getting frozen - rest of fridge was fine so it wasn't that we needed it on less chilling. Tried lining it with kitchen roll but it just wasn't working right (end up with damp kitchen towel stuck to frost-damaged carrot). Bought some of this matting stuff - no further ice damage to veg. Happy husband (chief chef of the household. Oh, let's be honest, only chef of the household)

One of the people I sit near to at work today announced he was going to get a toastie maker. He thought I was being unreasonable when I laughed and told him he would use it for a fortnight and then never again.

He says he's definitely going to get one. Just wait...... I'll report back in approximately four weeks

Not tried deep-fried but the peanut butter, cheese and banana sarnie is a fantastic combo, recommended.

Every time I go abroad etc. I buy a new bottle of spirits for the drinks cabinet. But with the exception of Christmas Eve (to blank out the wrapping torture, I have a humungous Tequila Sunrise) I don't drink spirits. My cabinet is now full to bursting. So, drink anyone?

Anything from JML, closely followed by the George Foreman grill. I do though, absolutely love the advertising for JML stuff on the shopping channels, it's funnier than most comedies.

A slow cooker/steamer. It seems like such a good idea at the time....you can prepare your veggies etc in the morning then have it ready for home time. Used it once....WTF's the point !!!!

Anything made by Blackspur (and JML)....A guy at work is always telling me he's just brought this brilliant this or that...only a quid !!!.
Every time i ask him if its made by Blackspur. Yes.....you may as well chuck it away then

A USB powered mug warmer.

I make my own coffee at work, so a colleague bought be a mug warmer.

Plug it into the PCs USB port and it has a central plate which gets warm. Rest your mug on it and (theoretcically), it keeps the mug base warm which keeps the coffee warm.

Thing is no cup has a flat base - they always concave - so there is nothing to warm. Went in the bin.

Sounds good, but can do without the Banana

Here's a tip - for a relatively quick dessert, apple and cinnamon toastie. Stewed apple filling, with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on the outside of the toast. Add a dollop of whipped cream, or nice vanilla ice cream...

Have to disagree on that one. Our slow cooker is awesome. Perfect just before our son was born, prepped loads of food, whacked it in the freezer... hm, cheap home made ready meals for tired parents.

a pair of fancy blade clamps for my scroll saw that some **** on YouTube was bigging up and like a muppet I believed the hype. The tiny metal clamps cost a tenner but the P&P was £5 for deliveries under £45 so like a muppet, I spent a further £35 on a Japanese pull saw that i didn't really need. The tiny metal clamps were really fiddly to fit and then i over tightened one and it split, rendering it nigh on useless. The original clamps I've had since 1995 are far far better than the fancy new ones that broke instantly

The Japanese pull saw, on the other hand, is an awesome bit of kit... so every cloud and all that
