If you can navigate your way around this forum, then using something like whats app is easy!!
Being serious for a moment, if you don't have relatively frequent visits from young people, mine are all farther afield, then you probably don't know that these things exist, let alone how to use them!
Perhaps there is business opportunity fir somebody to instruct old fogies!!

It took me a long time to work out how to use a forum compared to whats app.
I was able to talk to mum aged 74, over the phone, how to use whats app. Not all in one go. But now she loves it.

Ok but indulge me.
My daughter is going to the USA next week. As long as she can get WiFi,Messenger will send photos, text,I can create groups on it and I can call her on it. So why would I use What's App which so far as I can see does exactly the same.
I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on some great new thing or is it just another one of many apps that do similar things that comes down to personal preference?

WhatsApp is platform agnostic, so you can use it on the majority of mobile devices.

To be honest most of these services are very similar, so just go with what your friends/relatives are using.

Can they be used on one of these though?

If you mean Facebook Messenger then I personally don't use it because of the access rights on your phone that it requires to work.

My kids have snapchat and so do I if it comes to it but I feel like I'm not the right generation. I just don't see the point in taking a photo that lasts for such a short time. It's usually gone before I can look at it properly. My kids know that on the few occasions they try snapchatting me, they will normally get one back saying .... Please send in a message instead!

There always seems to be some new app that they are using, and I prefer the old ones that I've got to know so mainly a combination of texting, instant messaging, Facebook as my main means of communication.
