I was under the impression it was mainly beginners that flip their bike to mend a puncture. There's more to damage on the top (handlebars, shifters, computers, saddles) of the bike compared to the comparative oily mess under the derailleur. But on reading this thread, it's not just the beginners doing it.

not with bar-ends fitted...those plus the saddle makes a nice sturdy tripod. :thumbsup:
 
I flip on a convenient soft surface.
The only humiliation I face is having a fellow Yorkshireman come past offering to "put a scab on it".

The worst faux pas in cycling? Riding one of those electrically assisted bikes.:headshake:
they're not so bad... so long as they're not designed to look like a normal, proper man person powered bike.

I have always turned the bike upside down, for the past 50 years, much easier.
Received a like from me but...

I have learned after scuffing both shifters & bar tape...

Not good when I wanted to sell it on.
