Would it be possible to get a uk version going, would be interesting? With cycle couriers doing relay a letter could get from lands end to john ogroats in how long?^_^

If the CC jersey relay is anything to go by, I'd reckon about 8 years and 7 months.

I'm surprised that the POs haven't introduced some kind of pre- or post- pay parcel drop service for such issues. Customer has a Post Office account, and drops off their parcels at a designated location/drop box with appropriate credentials. End of week/month Post Office charges customer relevant fees.

Surely its not beyond the realms of possibility?

Part of me does feel sorry for the Post Office though, as I bet they deal with all sorts of rubbish. A case in point: a few years ago I needed to pay some money into my Halifax account - about £400, all in pound coins. I called into my local branch to ask how best to do this, half expecting them to tell me it would be fine as long as it was prebagged, or that I would need to go to a larger branch.

Instead, they told me I should go to the Post Office and get them to change my money into notes, and then come back to pay the money into my Halifax account. Why they felt it was the Post Offices responsibility to change my money for them I don't know. In the end I went to a larger branch who accepted it just fine.

We have a really good little PO very near by (Winchester) but they did have an extra chap in there for a few months who told us "if I was in govt I would ban Ebay and proof of bloody posting". I said it must be nice to be in a busy where you have too much custom to handle.

If you wanted to do have a moan, contact the local Royal Mail area management. That PO won't have any authority to have put up that sort of sign and you shouldn't tolerate bullying tactics. In any event, if the packages have been pre-paid, all the staff have to do it put them into their sack awaiting collection. They have to accept the items, as per the Royal Mail web site. And if you're paying for postage, then they have to accept that it might take some time to process.

I used to run an ebay business as a sideline, and had a Royal Mail postal contract, meaning I could use PPI stamps or a franking machine. Due to reduced volumes, I switched from having Royal Mail pick up from home, to taking the items to the local Post Office. After a few weeks, the manager tried to say they couldn't accept them any more, until I pointed out they had an obligation to accept the packages, and told them to ring my Royal Mail contact if they had an issue with it. Didn't get a peep or a scowl out of them again.
