Boring thread about calibrating cycling computers... First reply was from Domtyler.

Hi All

Just got myself a Specialized Globe 08 hybrid with 700c wheels :becool:
Took the computer off my old mountain bike (obviously 26") but now it's telling me that the trip to work is 4.97 miles or something when before it was 5.13. Same on the trip home... 5.96 vs the old 6.2 or whatever it was.

This got me thinking that it must be to do with the distance from the hub of the front wheel that I have the sensor placed? If this is the case (presumably it is slightly further away on the smilghtly larger wheels), how do I know that the previous placement and readings were accurate on my old mountain bike?

Effectively, if I move the sensors further down the spoke & fork towards the hub will it register I am travelling faster and further?

Thanks :becool:

Mine was on Politics and Life, innocently asking why people were being so unpleasant to each other and was it always like that.... for which regulator took me to task for being so arrogant that a new member should come on here and try to tell people how to behave... I was stunned, but MacB explained it to me!

Wasn't me 'n' Linf, was it? Glad we didn't manage to scare you off, Archie!

I am disappointed that that my first post on here was not some form of anti helmet post but rather:-

Aug 2008: I started when I handed the company car back as it was costing too much in tax. 10 years on and it is even more of a joy now then it was then passing the ever increasing queues of cars.

Just a point of note on the searching - I've had to limit the number of results it brings back at the moment, but I'll expand it once we get on the new server, hopefully making for speedier travel back through time ...

....but then I'm in a sentimental mood...

Well in that case I'll quote my favourite post in which I called you a "weak, whining, slimy column of trembling flesh barely fit for doner meat"! ^_^

Went back through mine to find that my first post, in Feb 2011 was a post singing the praise of drop bars having recently been converted to them by my new (then) Boardman CX
