I've actually done the maths. I collected the numbers over a number of years. Averaged over the year (wear is much more rapid in winter of course) I spend 3.23 pence per mile. Fourteen mile round trip - 45.22 pence.
Actual accident damage? Years ago I was knocked off. The bike was a right-off (Dawes Sterling, about two hundred quid in those days.). So was the car (Ford Mondeo, probably several thousand pounds). Ha.
