iso-Propyl alcoholIsopropyl Alcohol, I think, which would be IA not IPA but logic isn't
Except that the words of the first one start with IA and none start IPA. You're just trying to get people to waste beer.iso-Propyl alcohol
Isopropanol
2-Propanol
Propan-2-ol
IPA
In no way is it or should it be just "IA".
No, the words start with PA. The prefix starts with I.Except that the words of the first one start with IA and none start IPA. You're just trying to get people to waste beer.
YYSWNo, the words start with PA. The prefix starts with I.
Well you brought it up.YYSW
The thing is that there are many illogicalities in the trivial naming of organic compounds (hence the adoption of the IUPAC nomenclature system), but, Greek derivation of propyl aside, the shortening of IPA is not one of them.If you think that's bad should see some of the chemicals we have at our place. One that comes to mind is PTBCHA or para tertiary butyl cyclo hexyl acetate.
