When a thread becomes a folder

Might be worthy of discussion

64 pages and the Maria Sharapova doping which is newsworthy and topical is buried in it. I have expressed this before. Not sure it will get the audience and the numbers to generate activity for this forum.

The Jeremy Corbyn is another example where an interesting, highly controversial and an old chestnut has was raised 2 days ago - Public service wages paid by wealthy taxpayers but pretty much to a limited audience.

Some threads need to be locked after a period of time so that new discussions can be raised for the wider audience. Failing which threads inadvertently becomes folders and the usual fireside crew will gather. Business wise, analysts for potential buyers will discount long threads as churns in view of the same audience as they are unlikely to appeal to advertisers.

Please do take this as sincere feedback because it is a damn good forum but lots of folks are missing out on topical and newsworthy contributions that get buried into historically long thread which was well intentioned initially.

Thank you for your insights. I shall give them the attention that they deserve.

Surely the simple answer is a new thread?

It is possible that a single item has two contexts, and a thread for the item on its own, and also to discuss the item in the wider context is entirely appropriate

I'd have thought that as tennis was an"other sport" and she was "doping" that the logical place for it was "Doping in other sports" thread.

Members are free to start threads on any topic they deem of interest, but where the subject is already being discussed within an existing thread it makes sense to merge them with the existing thread - the OP is then directed to the existing thread where they can find a group of others who already find the same topic of interest.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
BTW it's national pie week.
And it's International Women's Day. Kudos to BBC Radio 3 for marking it again.

I think most of the SCP threads should be merged into one so the 10 solitary contributors can just argue amongst themselves without bothering the rest of us. In fact the last 10 posts should just be an image of them pissing up the wall and whoever wins, wins and close the whole thing down.
