My life change began when my brother died in 1991. It made me, through the grieving process, reassess my life over the next 4 years. I changed almost beyond recognition from what I was and what I would otherwise have become. The changes continued for the next 10 years after that and now I am finally truely 'me' and not what someone else or family would want me to be. I am able to proudly stand up for my values and desires in life without feeling that I need to be what my parents hoped I would be or what my friendships and relationships tried to mould me into.

That sounds like the kind of change that matters. Whether my comparatively superficial changes lead to something more profound, we shall see. Certainly a slower, smaller, more attentive life, I would hope...

...We are buying (for a price which probably wouldn't buy more than a garden shed here) a little house in a wonderful community on an island with an acre of land and a barn, which we are going to make carbon neutral, raise ducks or chickens, and grow most of our own food.
And I am sure you once assured me that you were not remotely new age

Actually it sound totally idyllic, and a great place to raise a family.

And what does your new job involve?

This is all great for us. But I want to know your stories. When will / did your life change? What would be the transformation you would want?

At the moment i've just finished university (graduation is in october i think) and getting married in just over a month. we plan to 'see what happens' family wise in about three years time, by which time we'll hopefully both have got jobs that we like and living somewhere we like.

I'd love to be working for a small graphics consultancy where i get to do a bit of everything while specialising in my favored areas of design.

we'd like to move to new zealand (we think) but need to visit first

Congratulations and I hope this change of circumstances leads to an enduring feeling of contentment for you and your wife (family!).

Hang on a minute: does this mean that we won't be hearing your squeaky little voice on radio 4 any more?;)
