Almost halve the cost is the forks, which is a rare cost due to damage. The bottom bracket you chose was very expensive. The rest are consumables and you’d have those costs new bike or not.
who cares your only 50 once!
Unless you break the frame, everything else is a manageable cost to replace, and a cost that would occur on a new bike with the same frequency. So buying a new bike just 'stall' the regular costs by (say) a year, yet will cost far more than one years regular costs.
I'd ony advocate buying a new bike if you want a (serious) upgrade, or the new bike does something that the old one can't like takes mudguards, larger tyres for gravel / off-road, much stronger frame for that round the world trip you suddenly decided to do etc
I purchased two specialised spare wheels to make the tyre Chang simple. Only to realise the bearings are well shot on my old wheels, (new bearings ordered) I’m thinking bikes have, like cars (7 yrs) a set life of maybe 5 years 🤷♂️
No, no, no, no.
Some people have a point where they cease maintaining their cars/bikes/lawnmowers/washing machines. That doesn't mean those objects are life-expired!
If we want to reduce our carbon footprint, and still have nice things, we will spend a little on maintenance and give our possessions a longer life.
If you absolutely have to have a new bike then pass your old one to someone who will give it another 15 years of use.
Some of my buddies have top spec Mtb bikes, they look so modern with the latest electronic gearing etc. that’s where I can miss out if I was to stick to the same bike. As it happens I can’t afford a new one but would still love a new one🤣
But one thing I have learnt over time. No matter how modern, you still need to pedal it and the uphill pain does not go away no matter how modern. (Excludes E bikes) 🤣👍
I agree with you all the way, but the manufacturers must make bikes to last an amount of time. If they never they would not be able to sell you another. I’ve had my mtb bike for six years and all the work I’ve had to do was this year. Nothing previous to that. Every bearing has now been replaced and most moveable parts have been refurbished. Hopefully I’ll get another five years out of it. I do put the bike through hell at times 🤣 the bike gets washed down after every muddy ride 😉
