When taking the lane doesn't work

Had some nutter pretty much drive through me this morning.

I was approaching this roundabout to go straight on. I take the lane here (about the point that the cycle lane stops, or sometimes a bit earlier) to stop being left hooked as drivers enter the slip road of the M60 turning left from the roundabout.

Matey boy who was behind me clearly didn't like it, beeped his horn and actually started to undertake me, forcing me to swerve into the outside lane. He then decided brake testing would be a good idea too. When I gestured for him to pull over, surprise surprise he disappeared up the slip road.

Sometimes you can't win.

I had a driver beep me this morning for daring to take the lane on approach to a roundabout instead of using the council provided suicide lane. I must have slowed them up by at least a second or two

went multi modal y'day. approx 1.5 kilometres from station to office. you think I'd be safe.

left hooked twice. both times in such a way emergency stops were needed and the second time I dropped the bike.

sometimes no matter what you do you meet a twat or two on the way to work.

Eugh, I've done that roundabout a few times - not fun at the best of times. Although I tend to go between the lanes of traffic.

Yeah, I might start taking the right hand lane if and when there is no traffic in that lane (few and far between though).

Roundabouts are a PITA

Must be the morning for it. I was in primary coming out of Gatley as there are the stupid pedestrian islands. Over took two slower cyclists giving them room, and was just outside the cycle farcility whan Fat barsteward in a builders fan beeps me as he passes and jestures 'move over' through his rear windows. He got the victory sign back. Caught him at Longley lane and he didn't even look back. Passed him again as he was coming out of the paper shop in Northenden - just glared at him, he wouldn't make eye contact. Big and hard in a tin box.

The dodgiest part of my commute is a roundabout where my speed often matches traffic. I get cars doing the overtakey brakey stuff.

Yesterday was the day for it for me. I had two cars undertake me as I was negotiating the most difficult intersection on my commute. It's Bike Week here in the US - it always brings out the nutcase cagers.

looks too fast an approach to be taking primary that early to me. Personally I'd take the right lane that early or wait a little and give it a big hand signal to pull out to the centre (with tons of rear obs to suit)

Na, fast approaches is when if you're going to take the lane you NEED to do it very early.

The right lane's not for going straight on. I get drivers overtake me in the right lane to go straight on, the way I'm going, it's stupid.
