I can't remember the last time I did, but yesterday I drove past a shop about five minutes from my house and it looked really busy.

I would've thought that most people would just book holidays on line unless it was something out of the ordinary that you were looking for.

A cycling chum works in the sector. He tells me that even he is amazed by the amount people are spending booking big expensive trips

It's all the coffin dodgers with the big pensions, there's a Facebook group that I follow about retiring early in the UK where people show what they're up to as far as enjoying yourself to the max before you peg it.

I can't wait until I'm one of them. 😊

A friend of mine, now retired, used to run a travel agency. He got me some very good deals that I doubt I would have got otherwise.

Mostly I book it myself though, either package if the flight is convenient, or booking flights and accommodation separately. I hate driving long distance to get a flight so limit my flights to airports within an hour of my house.

About ten years ago, but that was just to pick up a few brochures to get some ideas; never actually spoke to anyone. Last time I booked a holiday in a shop would have been a skiing holiday in the early 2000's.

Now, I will admit I have used an online TA much more recently than that (about 3-4 years ago) for a particularly complex multi-centre holiday and that worked out well because they were able to access certain deals and pricing that I probably would not have been able to (also to note they were a "luxury" travel agent, not of the TUI package holiday type). However 99% of my holiday bookings I do myself over the internet.

I never have, on my own account. My dad took me in once or twice when I was younger while he booked a holiday.

I have a client who is a travel agent and she once said to me, on finding out that I don't use travel agents, "so you're one of the ones who are killing my business"*. I didn't take her up on it but I'd argue that that would only be the case if I'd previously used her and then stopped - as I'd never used her she was losing no business by me continuing not to use her.

* This exchange occurred about ten years ago and her business is still doing fine.

Last successful visit was 2002.
There was that time in 2014 that we did to organise a month long trip to NZ. They screwed it up so badly that we wouldn’t even have got out of the UK if I hadn’t fixed it.

That was the last straw for me. Never again!

Like others probably 20+ years ago. I picked up a 'late deal' which turned out to be nothing like advertised.

Since then I've organised it myself, including our multi-site South Africa/eSwatini four week tour in 2016. That did take some planning but worked out fine.
