Half my family live here and half in a small village near Baguio City in the mountains of North Philippines, so could well end up there when i retire.

In a fantasy world I'd share my time between here, Brighton, which I still love after 50+ years and a rural property in the southern half of France or northern Italy.
In reality, I'd miss my kids and imminent grandchildren too much, I think.

You'd miss the wife too wouldn't you rich?

I once longed for retirement. At the time I had a well paid and pressurised job and I couldn't wait to 'do nothing' all day. But when the option was available it was suddenly not so attractive. I set up a small service business that keeps me in touch with people and whilst it is a small enterprise it is great fun to run and helps keep me sane. I'm 55 and work around 15-20 hours a week and life is pretty darn good - much better than my previous life!

I like the camper van approach, sell the house, tour Europe and chill out living on the cash. Having said that I could never leave Co Durham forever, too many things I would miss. The retirement house in france/spain has become something of a religion for the daily mailers, but like mac says a lot of them regret the move.

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
Perhaps a beautiful palm fringed island surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf stream. Hang on, I was born there! I might just get the ferry back when I retire:
