Local flea market might have a stall with vintage sewing equipment. They often have proper old-fashioned ones. You don't really want a cheap plastic one.

Update: I found my thimble - in Sainsbury's - and used it to help me fix my shoe. The stitching had broken and one of the seams was coming apart. It now seems to be sound again. Hooray! (D'you s'pose today's youngsters would ever think to fix a shoe? Me neither. ) Anyway, result!



(I still miss Woolworths.)
