Me - Glasgow and like very much

10 mins from the house and I'm in the countryside
Decent cycling routes when I get back up to fitness
Good bars and restaurants
Good selection of shops
Decent transport links by train or plane
Decent bike shops
Friendly people with good patter and chat
Decent things to do, architecture and places of interest

Only downside is the weather but hey as Billy Connolly said "there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing"

Where in Glasgow? I spent years in Yoker and a tiny while in Drumchapel before escaping to London.

I'm in Plumstead at the moment as it was the only place I could afford to buy in and it's okay, very quiet, but it's zone 4 and takes me hours to get anywhere. Mind you, I've discovered in the last week that if I ride/get the bus to Welling station that my journey to work is quicker and easier. I'd still much rather be in Clapham/Battersea where I was for the last four years. Effing adored it there.

I live in North Baddesley Hampshire
15 minutes and I'm on quiet country lanes
30 minutes I'm in the New Forest
Bars and restaurants – poor
Shops – one Co op
Decent transport – one bus every 20
Bike shop – one four miles away
Friendly people – we have a gang of young kids/young adults causing a lot of damage in the area the police have started to arrest and charge them.
Decent things to do - nowt
......but I like it

Hyndland in the West end.

Worthing
Not a whole lot

In it's favour there is the beach on a sunny day like today, some amazing cycling in the country lanes inland once you get away from the coastal strip which is horrid. It has a nice new pool and everything you would need...even way to many bike shops.

I don't like the aggressive drivers here, the constant coastal winds and the mainly grey cruddy weather (this last week excepted as it's been gorgeous).

Given a choice and a winning lottery ticket I'd move inland, about 5 miles....some beautiful villages there.

Currently back in south liverpool,
10-15 min gentle peddle to work,
In laws all live local,
M in law next door!!
loads of buses and mainline train 2 min walk away and airport 10 mins in car.
And its a quiet little suburban rd,
Plenty of rides around Liverpool and not to far to ride to the wirral, Delamere Forest and North Wales.

Not my first choice of abode but it's where my wife want's to live as it's where her family live.
I am a South West London lad so would prefer to live there. But there is a huge difference in the cost of housing between South West and South East.

However, having been in Orpington for the last 16 years I have grown to like it. But will move when the opportunity arises. It's just too white, middle class, suburban hell for me.

What's good about it.
It's very green.
It's 15 miles to the West End with great road, rail and bus links.
The wonderful Kent countryside is on the doorstep. 5 minutes for me.
It has a great selection of restaurants including a Michelin Star one.
The local pubs are rather much muchness. Some very poor chav havens, some run of the mill dives and a couple of really good ones serving some great real ales.
Have 1 Bike shop, who are really good and willing to do that little extra for you.
Some very good ofsted rated schools.

Basingstoke - Need I say more?

Actually not as simple as that.

I am a couple of miles out of town so I'm in the countryside and there is really great cycling around here. Rolling countryside, south downs .
Decent cycling routes - Really good network of back lanes out of town. I have about 10 decent different rides available from my front door. In town it is the worst place I know by a long way.
Good bars and restaurants - everything I need; tend to keep away from town. More country pub type.
Good selection of shops - Usual chains in town but then half hour from either Winchester or Reading for others.
Decent transport links by train or plane - London 45 mins by train. Hour to Gatwick.
Decent bike shops - no but then I mostly buy on line.
Friendly people with good patter and chat- No; bunch of shallow chav plebs.
Decent things to do, architecture and places of interest - Go to Winchester for most. London is an easy pop. But then I am also a mile away from a complex with 10 screen cinema (one of two in town) ice rink, bowling alley, pool complex, and just opened, indoor skydiving and ski centre. I have been to all of them and they seem to keep the kids happy.
So oddly with a bit of selection it seem to tick lots of boxes. Came here 22 years ago for work and seem to have settled.

Wymondham and really like it. Grew up about 15 miles from here and moved back home to Norfolk in 2011 after gadding about the country since 1998. Quite possibly never moving away again unless I can get a good job dog grooming in Cornwall ^_^
  • I am as far out of the main town as you can get, its about 100 yards to the town boundaries.
  • Its a historic market town with a gorgeous C14 abbey
  • Live in a cul-de-sac so no passing traffic
  • Chap opposite keeps birds of prey and exercises them every evening on the green in the middle of the close. Very interesting to watch.
  • 50 yards to the end of the buildings and country roads to cycle on.
  • I am about 12 miles from the centre of Norwich, should I choose to go there.
  • Great LBS right in the middle of town.
  • We use the Waitrose as a corner shop - a bit expensive for me for a full shop so we tend to pop to Asda in Norwich on our way home from work.
  • The natives are friendly.
  • Train station down the road should a train ride be required.
  • Good selection of shops and a really good vet and a lively church in the town.
  • An excellent pub with carvery a couple of miles from us, near the rather beautiful abbey.
