just lately my zip and energy has just vanished, i got my new secteur and thought yeah, cant wait to get cycling to work, but my energy and interest has just vanished, cant be bothered getting out of bed in the morning, cant be bothered to get the bike out of the shed.....is it the crappy weather...is it i'm getting old(36)....or is it the time of year?

Sorry to hear youre feeling like that. It hits most of us sometimes.

The time of year, age and weather all play a part.....but the really hard part is actually starting to commute. The more you cycle, the better it gets and the better you feel. My advice....just do it....although maybe not tomorrow as its wet n cold n windy

Im 46...It hit me recently but now I find I am enjoying my commutes again.

I went through a year of this...where at times the going was tough and I thought it was coming to the end of cycling for me.

I have changed my diet slightly but dunno if this has helped much.

(All bran being a favourite now)

Must admit a couple of times this week i've woke up decided to have an extra 20 mins in bed and take the car, then 2 mins later I feel guilty and spring out of bed and am glad i did, certainly think the cold mornings make it harder to get out of bed:cold:

i shower at work so all i do when its one of my bicycle commuting days is layout my cycling clothes the night before, get up in the morning and put them on BEFORE i look out of the window and see the rain/wind/frost/etc.

once i'm geared up for the bicycle, i feel like i can't back down at that point and just do it.

Give yourself a target of either distance or days to commute to work each week. It'll grow on you and give you the incentive to get out.............by the way we all go through these phases from time to time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could be suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.). I had some really bad winters with it before I read an article about S.A.D. in Cycling Weekly. I've been using a light box every winter since then and that helps me a lot.

Only approaching? Bah! 40 whistled past my ears 5 months ago...

Coincidentally, I've ridden more miles since then than any previous year....

We all have lows and dips. Sometimes you have to push through it and it gets better when you're on the bike. Sometimes it doesn't. Don't stress about it, enjoy.

I know exactly how you feel, but Arch has the right idea. I often do not feel like even going to the garage to get out my bike, but when I do get on the road, I don't want to stop! Just make that extra effort to cock a leg, so to speak, and I reckon your mojo will return.

Not really a problem getting up for me.I tend to get up earlier so I can relax at work before starting work and not having to rush about.

I was up at 5 am this morning left at 6am my target time was 7am although I wasn't on till 731am and out till 0805.Had to split train before hand though.
