Where is the NHS when you need it?

If the pensions, holiday pay, sick pay etc was more inline with the private sector there would be more money to spend on patients. This I got from a recently retired 56 year old senior midwife.

But then if they were in line with the private sector there would be little incentive to go and work for the NHS, so they'd have to up the salaries to match the private sector instead, leaving little NET benefit.

Presumably there wasn't one...or the shop being closed wouldnt be such a disaster. Nor any shops, restaurants or a petrol station anywhere close

Is there 2 pots? Please understand I have no idea how the finances work and that I am only repeating what I was told by an honest person last week.

No they're not. I earn more (about £20k more) in the private healthcare sector than the NHS.

Are they CEOs? And even then, a private sector one, if any good in a company with a turnover equivalent to say an NHS Trust or PCT budget, would earn much more

Thanks for the time you spent explaining to me how the finances work. Do you practise being rude or does it come naturally? By the way I seldom go into pubs and it was not a bloke.

Not much fun when you wait 8 hours without being informed of what is happening and not being able to get a drink or food because the hospital shop is closed.

True, and I've been annoyed with them before myself - they are not beyond criticism IMO. But it's still amazing to have.

I would hate to be without the NHS but as I said earlier some staff could try harder or be managed better.
