Double bed!

I've got a double bed* and mattress in the back of the truck at the moment. The divan base divides into two parts to make it easier to get up stairs etc.
But it would be a long drive and I couldn't get there before Christmas.

* bed is originally from Devon. Shipped here when another member of this household was transported moved here as part of an academic exchange.

The bed we liked, eight years ago, was £1900 at a very non-fancy shop in Fulham, west London. The same model was £800 on-line. Yes, we felt pretty bad about it, but it hasn't been a cause of insomnia. BTW, get a mattress-topper as well. Added comfort for nearly zero moolah.
BTW, avoid that memory foam stuff. It must be like sleeping in a giant marshmallow. Yucky!

Have you tried a memory foam mattress?

John Lewis here too.

Out of the sale, decent JL divan doubles start at £500+ , which for something you'll have for 10 years and spend around a third of your life in isn't a bad daily cost (they have one for £250 but I wouldn't want to sleep every day on a 'value' bed (and it won't last 10 years.

However, if you can wait until 27 December (and then a couple of weeks for delivery), they usually have a couple of special purchase beds in their sale - probably around £500 for a £700 or £800 bed or something

I'd still try the local independents, they'll deliver quickly, take the old bed away etc

Money spent on a bed is always money well spent.
Your bed is the most used item in your house, you spend more time in your bed than anywhere else, and an unsuitable bed can cause any number of health issues.
Dont buy a cheap bed!

Local independent  I got a lovely bed from Warren Evans, not very cheap though

I just went this option and it was cheaper than I could get it online. I do not believe in skimping on beds due to the amount of time that is spent sleeping in them and a decent well looked after one will last for ages. I had a bad experience with a big chain several years ago, Bensons For Beds. Yes the shop is local but any problems and it is just the usual national call centre affair.

If you can afford one get a Relyon pocket sprung, they are great beds and last for ages if you rotate the mattress reguarly.

I do not care much for beds from Ikea as I believe that they are not standard sizing. Also got one for my daughter a while back after trying out matresses in a branch. You would of thought that this was the best method for buying a bed? Well they were all pretty soft even the firm, so we got a firm. When they delivered it, it was rock hard and very uncomfortable. All I can deduce from this is that the mattresses on the display beds in the branch have probably been on display for ages. All the fatties that have been testing them out have taken their toll on the springs making them soft/saggy. Lets face it the amount of people that get through an Ikea store it is common sense that this is the case. Pretty crap IMHO, I will not buy another from there. Will pay more for a decent brand.

I got a very good mattress from Ikea many years ago and it's still in very good shape.

It's a double mattress and has fitted in three different non Ikea bed frames but there is extra height. I love this mattress!
