I'm sure I remember bathrooms and steam in the middle of the night many moons ago, or am I mixing up illnesses? I still remember being scared though, even if I can't quite remember what I did!

From NHS Choices:
"Steam treatment is not advised for the treatment of croup. There is no evidence that allowing your child to breather in humid air, for example steam from a hot bath or shower in a closed room, will help."

Might have been croup, but no longer recommended.

Well it would have been 15 years ago at a guess, but presumably the fact it says it, must have been what I was told at the time. I remember my parents and aunts giving well meaning advice at the time mine were young, and I can see I will inadvertently end up doing the same to my children I presume :whistle:, so much changes as our knowledge increases!
