Personally I wouldn’t spend that much on a single item of cycling clothing.
I do have some Assos shorts which are good, bought on sale. Castelli won’t go anywhere near me size wise so can’t comment

yep I wouldn't spend that much even when flush.
There's also the chance of damage no matter how great/refined something is.
A tore a brand new pair of Gores in a fall by a canal.

I'd spend the same money on two or three pairs of other perfectly decent ones.

Assos offer some sort of crash guarantee I believe but even so!
I’d buy two pairs suitable for different temps eg 5 deg+ and <5deg :okay:
Also if riding regularly having two pairs is good so don’t have to do washing every day

I thought I would purchase one good pair of bib tights and then they would last me for many years.

in winter, I use a pair of relatively cheap unpadded roubaix fabric non bib tights over my decent bib shorts. that way the money spent on the expensive bibs can be used all year round.

When it is not too cold/dry I use Rapha (unpadded) bib tights with padded shorts underneath. If it is very cold/wet I use the Stolen Goat climb & Conqueur bib tights
