Hi I've been looking at getting a new bike for commuting to work, just now I have been using my mountain bike. Halfords are doing a sale on the boardman bikes,

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...duct_Details_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PDPz1#tab2

And

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_777837_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#tab2

The mountain bike has fixed front forks and hydrolic brakes, the hybrid has a different gear ratio, also 28c tyres instead of 26". What would be the advantages over each other

What MTB do you currently have?

Personally, I would go for the hybrid. It will be better on the road than the hardtail.

Just now I'm using a GT aggressor, but iv stuck smooth tyres on it to try make it more road friendly

Since you already have a hardtail, I would definitely go for the hybrid.

It's a shame Halfords won't let you test ride the bikes then you would see which you prefer.

Do the gear ratio's make much a difference and what's the difference with the wheels, dirty for all the questions but I'm pretty new to this

the mtb will be a lower gearing so you will spin out quicker & not be able to go as fast. The wheels on the hybrid are a larger diameter & should roll better.
