Inspired by @Tim Hall who intimated that Aluminium frames were unlikely to be collectable.

What thinks the cc massive?
What Carbon, Aluminium or even Titanium confections (if any) might we get nostalgic over in the future?

I thought Ali frames were already classics?

Sean Kelly rode a aluminum Vitus 979 that Ive always adored

Cannondale did a classic aluminum bike though I can't remember the model, I think its still in production?

only the Alan Carbonio and the C40 (and, then, only the 00F version). The rest, however worthy, lack the combination of style and history.

Now.....magnesium frames....

It depends how much the humble bicycle changes in the next 50 odd years. If it does, then I expect any near-mint example of a "retro" bike would be sought after by someone in the future. It seems that nostalgia+good condition = ££, judging from Ebay. For example, a saw a full set of Natwest Piggies on for £90 the other day.

That's about it. If it's old, rare and in good condition it will be sought after. Cars and motorcycles that were piles of crap in their day are now classics because there are so few of them left. Think Hillman Imp or BSA Bantam.

Good points raised.
BSA Bantams are additionally sought after because they are are a good base for conversion for Pre '65 Trials.
