I saw my first R4 this morning. Nicely done, much more so than the 5, I thought.

We have bottled it. On Friday we are off to order a new ICE car not an EV. We have dithered about waiting for the launch of the small ID.Polo later this year which may be ideal for us but would prefer to get a year or two's new model teething problems out if the way first before we make the leap. We will also be in a new home with a charging point, too.

So, maybe an EV next time.

Buy a used EV. You will be hit twice with depreciation, buy ICE, then an EV

There are plenty of them about for vertical reasonable prices

When I had to sell my Skoda, I had my eyes on an ICE Kia as a replacement but an "approved" one, not new. (Approved means that you would get a full 7 year warranty from the day you drive away, not just the remaining balance of that warranty.)

I filtered by cars in my price range, not realising that I had included EVs and up popped a top of the range Niro EV (ex demonstrator) for the same cost as a mid range petrol Proceed.

I did some quick energy consumption comparison sums and the EV was a no-brainer. I was also saving about 33% on the new price for the sake of a couple of thousand miles on the clock.

Okay, I had to travel down to Lincolnshire to get it but it was still well worth it. I'd never driven an EV until that point and I was an instant convert. I can't see me ever moving back to ICE.

Would you not consider doing similar? You could dip your toe in the EV market at a substantial saving, and see if it's the right type of car for you.

Thanks for your comprehensive reply but we like VW's and Mrs SD really fancies the ID.Polo once it has been out a couple of years and any teething troubles for the model are ironed out.

We buy on PCP these days as we generally earn more on investments than buying with cash.

We just have a monthly PCP budget that rolls on indefinitely.
