Which EV would you get?

The batteries are sealed s are the connections. Apparently EVs are better at ’wading’ through flooded roads than ICE as they will not pull water into the engine causing the dreaded hydrolock and bent rods etc.

I recently drove my i4 (slowly) through a flooded section of road that was around 30-40cm after watching the car in front go through so I could gauge the depth ! No problems whatsoever so ever.
Tempting fate. The motors have vent ports and the electrical connections are well sealed but not submersible waterproof. Plus if water get into the cabin through the venting access then you're in for a whole world of trouble

What would you chose between the Citron Aircross EV or the more expensive but similar Vauxhall frontera EV?
I think the French one is more comfortable and stylish. The Vauxhall is bigger & boxier with a tad more range.

I've seen leases on the frontera for buttons - and about a months deposit rather than a years worth.
I've had bad experiences with Vauxhall in the past so I'd lease one - but absolutely not buy one.

This in spades, plus going through a deep flood you haven't got the faintest clue what's lurking beneath the water, could be a man hole cover or grate that's been lifted, then you drop a wheel in the hole, if you flood the traction motor or the A/C inverter or get water in the battery casing and wreck the BMS, or driveline reduction gears, you can brace yourself for an expensive bill, because the insurance won't cough up, and the parts are not cheap

That famous ford bridge where you see videos of all kinds of cars hydrolocking in various depths of water levels. Can’t remember the village but EV’s always get through it fine while many ICE fail.

They might get through, it's the unseen damage that gets done, for example when an area floods and cars are just parked up, not being driven through the water, they will be written off, as by the time you've replaced brake components, wheel bearings, checked gear boxes, axles on RWD cars, and engines for water ingress, changed oils filters, dried carpets & seats out, it's just not economically viable to repair it, and you've no idea what electrical gremlins are lurking due to water damage/corrosion in wiring looms, this will be particularly relevant in E.V's, as well modern ICE & Hybrid cars, as a lot, if not all, of the controls for the cars functions & features are controlled via a CAN Bus system, which are an absolute b*gger to sort out if you've got shorts or poor connections across several corroded wiring looms.
Basically only an idiot drives through a ford in anything less than an off roader that's fully prepped for wading, and even then all the off roading manuals state you should carefully walk it first using a long stick to check for possible obstructions, or open man holes.

That’s very true perhaps just keep my 14 yr old aka would be a better idea but the Dacia Spring EV sounds a good bet.

Maybe you missed the better Leapmotor T03. One passed me the other day.
With delivery miles only both are close to £10,000. Dacia have loads of low mileage, especially the older (buyer regret?) Spring 45.
The T03 hints at Fiat 500.

Likely very safe for 100 miles unlike the Dacia. Not for many long distances drives either really. Ignore the 245mile claimed maximum range.

We have bottled it. On Friday we are off to order a new ICE car not an EV. We have dithered about waiting for the launch of the small ID.Polo later this year which may be ideal for us but would prefer to get a year or two's new model teething problems out if the way first before we make the leap. We will also be in a new home with a charging point, too.

So, maybe an EV next time.

Well I checked out the Frontera ultimate & was impressed. I can’t wait to do my long weekly commute for under £5 a week.

I would seriously think long & hard before purchasing any Chinese car,the parts supply chain is very under developed, leading to cars being off the road for weeks, and even months due to a lack of parts availability, and locked down vehicle diagnostics

They do, but that doesn't mean the car hasn't taken in water where it shouldn't. Water ingress can take a while to ruin a vehicle, steady silent corrosion
