Quite dreadful
Can anybody venture an opinion on truffles? The type that pigs snuffle for in the Perigord. Are they really worth the fuss that is made of them?

There's some people here who either have no taste buds, have been in Britain too long, or are just making judgments on very little experience. Add up what people have said is underwhelming here and what you have left, I am not quite sure. I think I just feel sorry for some people... oh well, all the more left for the rest of us!

Garlic. See those beautiful sexy young Mediterranean ladies, then after a few years of lacing all their food with that garlic muck they become wrinkled old crones dressed from head to toe in black as they mourn their lost youth.
Yeh, you, Jimmy, watch it! :excl: ;)
Anyway, the most revolting thing I see people eating here is "roll and crisps" xx(

... or just have differing tastes. I think your post by your usual standards FM is one massive pompous overgeneralisation.

The thing about food is that liking or disliking one thing does not preclude liking or disliking another.

Hmmm.. one of my faves, Couscous with courgettes, Pistachio and chicken with a lime dressing...
For a variation, try bourgouri (crushed wheat) cooks like couscous, but has a crunchier texture, you can buy it in asian grocers.

The single most disappointing culinary experience of my life was a traditional Afrikaans Potjiekos (pron. "poiky-kos") which was given such a huge build up by all concerned that I was forced to grin maniacally and express my ecstatic reverence of the dish when in fact it was a second rate stew.

To make matters worse it was served with "mealie pap" (maize meal porridge, something like polenta).

Which brings me on to polenta; whenever I am served that, I wonder if there is some "in joke" going on and actually no-one likes it but I am being cruelly teased into politely pretending to enjoy it. Yup, polenta is the emperor's new clothes of the food world.
Fried polenta with Italian sausages in spicy tomato sauce
