I'd like it to have maps to guide me around Ireland and France in the summer, candence and HRM. Any advice please or please direct me toward the relevant thread. 800? 810? Thanks.

As you've specified a Garmin, (and why not indeed), from what you've said you require then the obsolete 800 or the current 810 are indeed your only options.

I've never owned a garmin, but one of the pleasures of using my phone to track on long journeys is being able to share the trip with those at home (eg live tracking with endomondo). I believe the 810 combined with a bluetooth smart phone might give you that functionality.

I got the 800 and love it , i do in some respects wish i had gone that extra and got the 810

I bought the 810 instead of the 800, mainly because I got a good deal for the 810 but being able to upload all your data without plugging it in and on the move is great, the tracking is also good via Bluetooth on the iphone if you are disappearing for the day into the unkown (on holiday), it lets others know where you are.helpful if someone is on there way and don't know where there going.
If you get the proper maps on your sd card then both have great map/course features. It will bleep at every turn and let you know when you are off course.it also gives plenty of notice for upcoming turns.
So really as it been said if you want the extra features then 810, if there no interest to you then go for the 800.

The 800 does the turn by turn sat nav just like the 810, the reason i would have gone for the 810 is the real time online tracking.
This is done (i think i am correct saying this) through android type smart phones, where as my company phone is windows based and is very poor when it comes to apps, so it did not work with my windows phone, so did not bother at the time.
To be fair though the 800 is a fantastic bit of kit , and I'm really happy i bought one.

I have the 800 and over the moon with it.
Live tracking with the 810 needs to be done via a smartphone. I just just have a find my iphone app on the phone and the good lady can just use the laptop at home to see where I am.
Phone always comes out with me and just stays in my saddle bag. So for me no real reason to pay more for the 810.

This is probably the best price around but do a hunt
I have similar although I got the unit and Euro maps separately (for around £280), yet to be used so cannot comment on functionality

That cheers me up, I paid less for my 810( inc HRM + cad)in the sale's. Hand tec are usually one of the cheapest around,never used them though.I am really impressed with the Bluetooth upload/download of course's and activities.I've never checked to see what price they are now.

The European maps are £75 rrp which hikes the price up if course. I got the 800 for under £250 with hrm and cadence. That was pbk with a voucher code
