Here for rides.
My longer rides are typically 60-80m with the occassional ton.
Then an Edge, whilst the batteries are in tip top nick and fully charged will be your friend. Beyond 100km I want to be able to buy my replacement/backup power over the counter at the next garage or corner shop, and thus must use an Etrex.

I've just checked, I've done around 100 rides of over 60 miles with my 800 and the battery has run flat once, on a century with map display on all the time. Other than that I have never even seen the battery running low warning.

the only issue with battery life was on the first century ride i did with it, keeping the map display on and redrawing all the time drained the battery after 8.5 hours

that'll be that fancy car-like 3D display that does that ;)

On the Etrex, it will regularly handle 200 miles. I think I was on my third set of batteries at the end of last year's LEL and it's just the convenience of popping into a garage to get new ones that is the USP

And that's fine and dandy. I'm not criticising your choice of device. Beyond 100km I want to be able to buy my replacement/backup power over the counter at the next garage or corner shop, and thus must use an Etrex.
