I forgot, Alicante is a great little city too, not as many things to see/do as Malaga but enough.......a great historic area, very few Brit tourists, it's own beach and marina and the best beach in Spain just around the headland, Playa de San Juan, where I ended up staying a few years ago. It has miles and miles of beautiful white sand but..........not much to do apart from visit bars and restaurants. Staying in Alicante and making few visits there would be a great holiday, there is a very regular tram service to San Juan that also goes all the way to............... Benidorm............Alicante has superb local nightlife, eating/talking/drinking goes on until the early hours packing out some downtown streets, I went in January this year and wondered what those streets would be like, they were just the same but with the locals wearing coats! I can recommend the Santa Cruz area as a place to stay, Google it, I've stayed here in Alicante with spectacular views from the rear over the whole city, castle, marina and sea.
Malaga airport has a train taking you right in to the centre and Alicante has the C6 bus every few mins, so no hassle transfers with easy access from every UK airport. Both places would make a great holiday destination IMO.
