Which one?

Just about to return to cycling, not been on a bike for about fifty years. I cannot make a decision on which bike to buy other than a hybrid. I like the specialized sport cross trail disc, then I look at the giant then I look at the boardman and whilst in Halfords the carrera (value for money?). Then theres the trek, oh and the cube cls.

I'm pretty sure I want suspension with lockout and hydraulic brakes ( I have been told mechanical are nowhere as good as hydraulic, I'm pretty practical so I don't think I would have too may probs with adjustments).

My main cycling will be on trails and small amount on the road, in time maybe more road but I have seen how some motorists treat cyclists and that is a concern to me.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

All of the ones you mention are good, try them out in a shop if you can and see which one feels right. I have a Giant Roam 2 and it's a cracker.

Carerra Subway hybrids are excellent IMO. I have a couple of the older, pre-disc brakes version that alternate as commuting bikes. However I wouldn't take them on anything but the gentlest of trails personally. From what you say, I guess you may be looking at something a little more sophisticated and expensive though?

I have closed the door on halfords. The cube, no one sells them locally so unable to see one in the flesh. The trek although there is a dealer locally a bit more money like for like, but sales people a bit 'straight laced'. So that leaves specialized and giant.

Another point is the colour, I'm not too sure about the charcoal colour of the specialised but maybe it's the next 'black and cool colour' but it is slowly growing on me. Evidently it comes in a brightish blue, not sure about that one either. Maybe it's because I'm new and not up with the colours yet. I have come across a 2014 specialized in silver on line that looks nice but is that old hat now, and it does concern me that there is no free first service and could be warranty issues. Saying that I'm a pretty practical person.

Hope your not thinking I'm bit of a fuddy duddy but I don't want to buy this bike and in a few months be thinking oh I should have bought so and so.

Does the 2015 Specialized Crosstrail Sports Disc differ very much to the 2014 model?

I'm not sure in all honestly as I haven't looked at the 2015 models, a great time to pick up a reduced 2014 model however. Have you a concept store near to you?
