Hi all,

I am just getting back into road cycling after an accident 3 years ago, part of which to blame was getting stuck in my cleats.

I have slight arthritis in my left ankle, and therefore reduced mobility in it, and this has always made it difficult for me to twist out of SPD-SL clips, even on low torque settings, so was wondering whether anyone had any advice on what to try?

Thanks

Andy

SPD on loosest setting with multi release sh56 cleats? Can pull foot up rather than having to twist. M520 pedals cheap as chips, double sided and you can get shoes you can walk in

Thanks Vickster! The days when I'd be too proud to put MTB pedals on my road bike have long gone! I might give this a go

Trail type SPD pedals with multi release cleats.

These pedals.

With these cleats.

Would be my choice. You don't have to twist your foot out, you can step out, as if the pedals were just flats.

Thanks, but I still want all the efficiency savings of cleats, but without the twisting action (or as little as possible). Heading over the Alps in September - not sure I would want to without cleats
I've ridden in the Alps on flats  - cleats offer effectiveness benefits, not efficiency savings.
