My wife has an iPhone, I have a HTC Hero and a Blackberry Curve (work)... IMHO the Apple is a fashion statement, the Blackberry is good for work, and the HTC is a true geeks phone.

I've also just found out that I can upgrade to the Desire for free in two weeks... shame Orange are out of stock at the moment though

Why won't it work in the car like the ipod?

Just curious...

Well it does if I upgrade my car kit which is what £60. I have an old Pioneer CD IB100 which is about 4/5 years old now and only compatable with the I Pod and 1st gen I Pod touch. anything after this comes with different voltage and you can't control the iphone from the headunit.

I've got a Blackberry Bold of my own and work gave me an iPhone 4

Both great phones but I do use them for different things. iPhone for web and apps and just general playing around on the train and so on, Blackberry for most calls and all messaging and emails. Have to send some emails with the iPhone but don't like typing on the touchscreen, Blackberry buttons are so much quicker and more accurate.

But isn't moving from a Hero to a Desire more like a cross-grade, especially since Heros will be getting the Froyo update shorty?

But if you do get one, hold out for a silver one! ;)

I can't see the Hero getting 2.2 anytime soon... we waited 7 months for 2.1 only to have the most useful bits missing from the release.

The CPU is a lot faster on the Desire, too.

If I can get one for free then the Hero can go on the 'bay and I can buy something new for my bike

Well for me - Apple 8gb 3gs for £25 a month contract and £120 to buy the phone V HTC Desire for £20 a month with free phone

Apple = £720 over 2 years
HTC = £480 over 2 years

£10 a month differance.

Oh and I get a 25 mins extra per month and UL texts with the Desire but just 300 texts with the Apple.

I've got 2.2 on my Hero. Just head over to the XDA website.

That's quite persuasive. I don't reckon I would ever have got the iPhone for myself, work gave it to me. Blackberry contracts are pretty reasonable, but you do pay extra for the BB services...

Quite. I contacted O2 to find out the cost of buying phones outright, comparing several phones.

Desire = £280 + 16gb MicroSD card = £300

16gb iPhone4 = £650

SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS! That's more than the bloody iPad!

I think Apple (and to a lesser extent the networks), knowing they are getting people into contracts where they don't really see the true cost of the phone, are TOTALLY taking the piss with the pricing of the iPhone. Hell, they'll sell crap loads anyway why not totally overcharge? Supply and demand, huh? C***s.

Samsung Galaxy S

Galaxy S is much better than Desire and that's without the 2.2 update (which comes in 2 weeks and has more than standard 2.2)

if it's not Android it's not worth getting at the moment so forget about the iphone
