Which rear light do you use?

I've just gone for the Smart R2 on chainreaction. I hope that one lives a little longer than the bikehut one!

I also use the Halfords rear - surprisingly good I think considering its source. Not had mine fall off - yet! Hint - wrap a bit of gaffer tape around the bracket to make sure.

And have you ever had a light that has suffered from the BCCVWB effect? If so, what was it so I can avoid it?

Yes. Cheapo Smart (or Smart look-alike) from Wilkinsons. They do tend to fall off, especially if you hook it to a saddlebag loop instead of the supplied bracket. Yes, I lost one that way - no gaffer tape . But they're cheap, sufficiently bright, and good as spares.

Note: the front that comes in the Wilko set is also useful as a spare to 'get you home', though I wouldn't rely on it on a dark road! But I carry it because my rechargeable set sometimes 'gives out' at the most inconvenient moment!

I've loads of the Smart Superflash ones... and like them. The only very rare problems I have had with them has been one got really really wet in a downpour and refused to switch off - until dismantled and left to dry ... been fine ever since. More recently I have one that has a tempermental switch ... which occasionally changed modes ... I bent the copper bit on the advice of CC and I think it is fine (problem is I didn't mark which light it was so now I don't know out of the 4 or 5 that we own). I have recently bought the Raleigh RSP one ... and it bounces out of the Smart bracket (yeah I'm lazy but it was worth a go) but now I have fixed on it's own bracket it has stayed fine.

I also have BLT Fantom rear light which I like but has an annoying bracket - so I have something cobbled together by a bike shop instead.

If towing the trailer, a poundland 5 LED light on each rear corner too

*Poundland lights are just fine for secondary lighting, but wouldn't recommend them as the sole lighing

I used to have a cheap and cheery one from asda but lost it on the commute home a couple of weeks back. Replaced it with a cateye TL-LD 600 and really pleased with it's fixing and visibility. So much so i just bought another from Wiggle for my mtb.

Utterly agree. Essential for safety and you can't see them. The chances of having one fail before you notice is high, of more than one failing at the same moment is small.

Me too. I was not overly impressed with the superflash, brilliant light but I lost three to water ingress; the R2 is a different league. I use a Mars 3, Mars 4 and the R2, if I had to choose just one then it would be the R2.
