Yup, autumn is here and the nights are drawing in, I mostly need a front light that will be able to cast light down country lanes, as half of my commute is unlit...if i get a back one as well bonus...

any recommendations at around the £50 mark and less

I believe the moon ones are good. My boss/mate at work has one. @potsy has one and I've seen it in action.

I couldn't tell you the relative merits of the different models but you can pick up a 300 for less than £50. I have been looking at them.

Just purchased bike lights which are usb rechargeable back and front for £50 and can report so far so good make is one 23 ill post a link if the shop has them online

I have a Cateye volt 300 (front only) which is amazing, much better than the 100 lumen light I had before. I heard the the front rear combo is great, as naturally the rear battery lasts longer and as they are removable battery packs you can switch them when the front light gets low.

What I really like about it is the hyper flash mode, which has constant medium light beam, with super bright flash which is very visible in the day, and still surprises me when I see my reflection in cars int he light of day.

cheers for the feedback, I know no one has mentioned it, but i'm kind of tempted by the Moon combo for around £50/55, seems very bright and floods the whole road, so i can see the badgers coming!

ooops someone did mention moon...

Yep my Moon is the light I use the most out of the ever growing collection, got the 500 but tend to use it on level 2 (of 4) which does a good job of lighting the road up.
The newer versions are even more powerful but I would imagine that will impact on battery life.

Only problem with mine is it no longer shows when the battery is getting low so I just have to make sure I top it up regularly, always have a back up anyway.

I also use the Volt 300 from Cateye. In a set with the Volt 50 rear it should be around the 50 pounds mark. From a systems point of view this light is superb (High quality, super easy system, looks very nice, has kept waterproof and fully functional while my bike was under water during a flooding...).
But its more of a light for on road riding, if you do mountainbiking at night id recommend at least two front lights (Helmet and handlebar).
Next I will probably get me the more powerfull Volt 700.
